Slinking Around

I have a hard time pretending our love affair’s not ending when I hear them talking all over town. When they say that you’ve been cheating this crow that I’ve been eating starts esophagating all the way down. Now I’m avoiding all the places I might see familiar faces. I try to keep my profile low. ’Cause if your girls would see me coming they’d start whistling and humming. D G I don’t need to put on that kind of show. Well, come on talk to me honey. I know it’s not the money. I’ve always kept you fiscally sound. But all the rumors you’ve been spreading, the ’fect that I’ve been dreading D G You’ve got me slinking around. Now I’ve been slinking but I’m thinking I don’t need to do this drinking alone. ’Cause though it sounds a little funny, I know I’ll find a honey, somebody who will follow me home. So, don’t you think you’ve got me bested. I’ve been measured. I’ve been tested. Lived in penthouses and slept on the ground. I’ve learned enough to keep on fighting. Slip the thunder. Duck the lightning. Now you’ve got me slinking around. I keep my front door shuttered. My mail box is cluttered. I do my best to not make a sound. So if somebody comes a-knocking they won’t see the house a-rocking Or how you’ve got me slinking around. So, when you come back crawling, don’t you bother calling. I won’t be home or easily found I’ll have a bunch of new addresses. You’ll be left with 2nd guesses. Why you had me slinking around.
